ARE YOU A GIVER OR TAKER?
I have a dear friend who GIVES constantly. He may not be able to pay his bills some weeks, but he will give someone $50, if they do something nice for him. Like bring him lunch. Which costs $5. He is one of those people who will give you the shirt off his back. And never want anything in return.
Growing up I always heard it's better to give than to receive. And I always enjoy surprising someone with a little gift, when they don't expect it - and I am uncomfortable accepting gifts.
What does it really mean to give value, why does spending time with some people make you feel good regardless of whether they actually do anything which directly benefits you.
What is it about some people that makes you feel drained after they leave. Why are some people always selfishly taking from others?Givers in relationships are always looking for ways to help, support, give and be a benefit to their partners. They give because it is in their nature to be generous, kind, giving or supportive.
Takers on the other hand always take - stuff, help, support, kind acts, recognition etc.
They take because it is their nature to do so.
You can be the giver or the taker in friendships, relationships, in work settings - or just life in general. Life is about the exchange. Think about that next time you TAKE. Have gratitude. Show appreciaition. What you give, will come back to you.
MTV Big White Wall posted a fun little quiz by UK relationship expert Simon Jacobs, to see where you stand.
