Make a Difference

After watching   movies like Seven Pounds and  Pay It Forward,  I  ask  myself, gosh, what I can I do to make a difference?!

So I GOOGLED   “make a difference”.

And I found a day called  just that!  The national MAKE A DIFFERENCE day  to help others and make a difference
will be  October  24th, 2009.

But in the meantime, if you want to do something right now, you can search by keyword, or city, or zip code! And find a project that is happening or upcoming!

GET INVOLVED!

Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of helping others, is sponsored by USA WEEKEND Magazine and its more than 600 carrier newspapers. Make A Difference Day is held in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation. The 18 th Make A Difference Day was Saturday, Oct. 25, 2007. Make A Difference Day supporter Paul Newman donates 100 percent of after-tax income from Newman’s Own to educational and charitable causes.

Life By Design – Let’s Keep Designing!

GOSH….

I FEEL SO GUILTY!

We started this site nearly 3 years ago.  With the hopes we would share personal insight and ways for people to really make a difference in their lives. Live  a life  WORTH  MEANING! School does NOT teach us what we really need to know in life!

After I turned 30, I asked myself, “Is my life headed in the right direction? How do you change it if you are not? Why would you want a life by design? What if you thought you were, but are not happy with where your life has taken you? Do you go through the motions of life? With no meaning? or experience?”

SO I SAID! “Join me on a journey! A journey of discovering the secret to living a Life By Design! Inspirational and motivational. Let’s create change. Change in ourselves – change in others!”

WE  now  try to do our best  to juggle  15 sites!  And there is just no way to give each site the time and dedication that is needed.  But we try! So bear with us! Because this site,  LIFE  BY DESIGN  really  started it all. And it is something we are very passionate about.  And  I am not sure why….or  how….or  when….but we know this site will  EXPLODE one day! We enjoy a few thousand readers each month, there is just not enough time in the day to post to it frequently.

That said,  we are accepting posts from freelance writers. If you have a blog that is similar in  mission – send us a post, and we’ll make you a guest author!  E-Mail me!

This site is too important to us and I think as a collaborative effort – WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Let me know if you would like to contribute!

“The Face Behind The Blog” Meme

With all that said, I recently came across a meme called FACE BEHIND THE BLOG at SHA MONEY MAKER DOT COM. The meme was actually started 4 weeks ago by DAVID AIREY. The idea is that by putting a face to the name of someone you haven’t met helps recognition and adds a more personal feel to your conversations. – And he suggested illustrating the piece with photos that really show us in a different light, perhaps something other than our standard headshot!

And we really wanted to participate in this one! The whole reason   behind  LIFE BY DESIGN is why we live our life the way we do! We both feel so strongly about living each day to it’s fullest and creating a life full of happiness, energy and having fun! And when a stranger reads our blog, they really have no idea who we are – up until now. We want to share with you some images and stories of our 8 years together and our life by design!

Derrick and I met while standing in line at a nightclub! Both of us had previously had long term relationships which I think prepared us for our meeting. We only chatted a few minutes before entering the club, paid our cover charge and was dumped into the sea of people at this huge club. About 2 hours later, we ran into each other. He asked me if I wanted to dance, and we did. It was magic! And we have been together ever since!

For years, Derrick had studied all the greats; Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Dale Carnegie…all the master creators of a life by design. During our first year together, he brought me up to speed and shared with me all that I had been missing. Like a sponge, I soaked up all the information and started applying the principles in my life. While working for Siegfried and Roy, Roy had taught me a lot about living life and realizing your dreams, but all of this new  information took it all to another level.

Of course, as time went by, we had to keep raising the bar, and the outfits had to be more creative. Nightclubs  expected us, to be dressed up. And if there was a theme, we would embody the theme!

All I really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten, Or Didn’t I?

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten, has sold millions of copies of his book. Think about it conceptually, wouldn’t it be absolutely amazing if his title claim were in fact true and we all graduated from kindergarten with the fundamental life skill sets we needed to be happy and productive citizens?

    /images/42494-38842/223535672_c397d02da6.jpeg”>

Just to consider that possibility of such powerful instruction brings all these visions and images of a world full of love and peace and serenity and happiness and joy and community and hope and abundance into my head.

    /images/42494-38842/157978609_621921dde2.jpeg”>

The lessons Fulghum claims to have learned in kindergarten that prepared him for life are:

    • Share everything.

    • Play fair.

    • Don’t hit people.

    • Put things back where you found them.

    • Clean up your own mess.

    • Don’t take things that aren’t yours.

    • Say you are sorry when you hurt somebody.

    • Wash your hands before you eat.

    • Flush.

    • Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.

    • Live a balanced life-learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

    • Take a nap every afternoon.

    • When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.

    • Be aware of wonder.

If you haven’t read his book, please get a copy and do so.

    Half.com - $.99 Books, DVDs, and more

It’s practical, funny and a quick read. I just find it to be only a piece of the puzzle and I want to explore the “missing pieces” further.

As you read how Fulghum extrapolates these lessons learned into real-life settings, I agree, they are important and the world would be a better place if we were all on the same page here. However, they are externally centered and have more to do with how we behave and interact with others appropriately, mixed with a little self-care, don’t get me wrong-I love the cookies and nap part.

    /images/42494-38842/47943342_0e23238c11_m.jpeg”>

I believe though what’s missing is the internal pieces that really build out who we are, what our lives are about and how do we design/redesign/or create lasting change?

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten would indeed be closer to the truth. The reality is we aren’t ready to receive and understand that kind of teaching at that age, however, you would think that maybe over the course of the 12 plus years we are formally educated, some learning about these topics may have occurred? Not in my school system!

These are the life skill areas and tools I want to explore with you. Because Life Doesn’t Come With An Owner’s Manual, there is Life By Design to help you figure it out.
