Linda Thompson Shares Living With Bruce Jenner

linda thompson bruce jenner

The Huffington Post is the exclusive outlet for a compelling blog written by Linda Thompson, former wife of Bruce Jenner.

By now, Bruce Jenner has revealed his struggle with gender dysphoria.
I never would have dared to speak on this issue before he was comfortable enough to do so first. It is, after all, his truth, so I knew he should be afforded the dignity to reveal that truth on his own time and in the way he sees fit.
I have respectfully kept his secrets private and would have taken his confidences to my grave had he not spoken out.
But now, many years into his remarkable life, he has spoken out. His legacy will likely be sprinkled with references like “Olympian,” “decathlon gold medalist,” “world’s greatest athlete,” “son,” “brother,” “husband,” “father,” “grandfather,” “friend,” and, hopefully, “pioneer” and “trailblazer for the civil rights of the transgender community.”
Can you imagine Bruce and his family living with this secret for 30 years?

Help Hens for Better Caging

Tell Egg Producers to Get Hens Out of Cruel Cages Nationwide

What’s a battery cage?

A battery cage is a tiny, wire cage about the size of a filing cabinet drawer. Typically, up to a dozen chickens are crammed into a single cage, and the cages are stacked in tiers inside giant windowless sheds that can run the length of two football fields. Each shed can confine hundreds of thousands of chickens, each with less space than a single sheet of notebook paper to live out her entire life.

In such extreme confinement, these poor animals can’t even spread their wings, much less move around without stepping on and climbing over other hens.

Just weeks before California voters went to the polls to cast their ballots to give egg-laying hens more room, my friends at Mercy For Animals released startling video footage from inside two of the state’s largest egg factories. The videos showed birds packed in cages so tightly that they could hardly move, countless chickens injured and trapped by cage wire, and dead hens left to rot in cages with live birds still laying eggs for human consumption.

Although these inherently cruel cages are now banned in California, millions of animals throughout the rest of country continue to suffer in these gut-wrenching conditions.

This has got to stop.

Please join me, and Mercy For Animals, in calling on United Egg Producers—the industry trade group that represents nearly 90 percent of U.S. egg producers—to require all its members to go cage-free. Thirty seconds of your time to sign this petition could help alleviate the needless suffering of millions of chickens.

Roger & Me gets Restored

Warner Bros. is releasing  the completely restored, newly-remastered 25th anniversary edition of  Michael Moore’s, ROGER & ME.

“It’s the first time this has been done for any movie of mine, a full 4K digital restoration from my original 16mm negative. The result is a mind-blowing version that now should live on for, well, for as long as the planet lets us stick around.

In addition to supervising this restoration, I’ve recorded an all new director’s commentary track to go along with it. It’s completely uncensored and straight from the gut. I do not talk about “how I lit” the little bunny rabbit. I do name names and candidly tell you about the unlikely history of a film that should never have gotten made.

ROGER & ME is the movie, as many of you know, that began my career as a filmmaker. It is, shockingly, every bit as relevant today as it was when it came out in 1989. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, it foretold the systematic elimination of the American middle class and, in its wake, the so-called American Dream — the dream that promised if your hard work made your boss rich, you would be rewarded with a few simple comforts like your own home, a college education, affordable medical care, and a nice, long paid vacation.

ROGER & ME, through my telling of the story of GM and my hometown of Flint, warned that the wealthy had other plans for you in the 21st century — the crux of which was “no more sharing of the pie.” A few would still get to be rich, I predicted; the rest of the citizenry would fight over the remaining crumbs when not distracted by inflated fears of foreign threats or scary domestic events like gays marrying or a President who faked his papers at birth.

And what has happened since ROGER & ME? Well, Wall Street’s wealth multiplied three times over — while workers’ wages remained stagnant or decreased, and benefits and pensions became nothing but fond memories of a bygone era.

Twenty-five years ago I saw the beginning of this, and instead of screaming from the mountain top, I made ROGER & ME. It (along with “Do the Right Thing”) was the most acclaimed film of 1989. As one critic wrote, “It has ignited a modern-day documentary movement.” It was the first nonfiction film shown in mainstream multiplexes and shopping mall cinemas — 1,300 of them. This had never happened before with a documentary. ROGER & ME set the all-time box office record for a doc (a record that was later broken by “Bowling for Columbine” and then again by “Fahrenheit 9/11”).

Two years ago, Lincoln Center wanted to have a special night honoring ROGER & ME. They discovered — to their horror and mine — that all the existing prints of my film had been ruined by time and the elements. That set me and Warner Bros. into motion and, after the Library of Congress designated ROGER & ME a “national treasure” last December (which placed it on the federally-mandated list of films that must be preserved), Warner Bros. spent tens of thousands of dollars not just to preserve my film, but also to bring it into the digital era. The results of their restoration are nothing short of stunning.”

Sea World to Host Forum to Answer Critics

tilikum_0_0

SeaWorld is finally putting its mouth where its money is.

On June 5 at La Jolla’s Museum of Contemporary Art, a representative from SeaWorld will take on two prominent critics of the park to “talk through the issue” of keeping killer whales in captivity, according to Voice of San Diego, organizer of the unprecedented event.

“As far as we’ve seen, this will be the first time SeaWorld answers questions and offers its perspective directly to the public,” says VOSD’s website. In the past few years, SeaWorld has dispatched staff members to participate in panel discussions on captivity at a few marine mammal conferences, and company representatives have testified before Congress and a recent California Assembly Committee considering a bill to ban orca display in the state.

Now members of the general public will have an opportunity to grill a company rep as well as two captivity critics: Naomi Rose, marine mammal scientist at the Animal Welfare Institute, and Susan Gray Davis, a former UC San Diego professor who wrote the 1997 book Spectacular Nature: Corporate Culture and the Sea World Experience.

TRANShumanism…Discovering Humanity’s Potential

At its core, transhumanism is about discovering humanity’s potential, an
idea that’s been around for centuries. Yet at times we’ve also done the
opposite by selling our species short and throwing in the towel early.
Towards the end of the 1800s, for example, conventional wisdom suggested
that all the great scientific discoveries had already been made and
that there wasn’t much left to do beyond some “tidying up” of existing
theories.
As Charles Duell , commissioner of the United States
Patent Office, boldly asserted in 1899, “Everything that can be invented – has already been invented.”

Salvation Army Thinks Gay People Should Be Killed…off the Record

I have boycotted the Salvation Army for about 10 years now. And what kills me, are these big companies hate the gays. But they try to keep a “poker face” to the world.  But every once in a while, their true colors accidentally slip out!

I am sure the Salvation Army does plenty of the good for heterosexuals. But the Salvation Army has always been down on gays.

EVAN MCMURRAY said it well, “You know that friend or relative you have, with that one really uncomfortable
opinion on something? Like your Uncle who’s otherwise chill unless you
get him onto the subject of the Fed, or your friend who once read
The Autobiography of Malcom X
and now thinks he can hold forth about How Minorities Work? You know,
the guys who would be fine if they would just shut up about that one
thing?

The Salvation Army is like that guy, extrapolated into a global
charity organization. Yes, they ring bells in front of shopping malls
circa November-December to guilt you into giving money to for
poor people, and sell you mid-level “previously-rutted-upon” couches
for prices that should really make you wonder about their level of
rutted-uponness
.”

The Austalian Salvation Army is apologizing for an interview in which Major Andrew Craibe, Territorial Media Relations Director for the Southern Territory in Victoria told journalists Serena Ryan and Pete Dillon that gays deserve to be put to death, Truth Wins Out reports:

CraibeRyan noted that the Salvation Army handbook cites Romans 1:18-32, a passage claiming that “God’s decree” is that homosexuals deserve death, and asked Craibe if the Salvation Army took that passage literally. Craibe replied in the affirmative, and continued to do so throughout the interview.

In response, Major Bruce Harmer, Salvation Army Communications and Public Relations Secretary for the Eastern Territory, issued a statement acknowledging that Craibe’s responses to Ryan and Dillon were a “miscommunication” that resulted in a misrepresentation of the group’s official teaching. The statement read, in part:

“The Salvation Army sincerely apologises to all members of the GLBT community and to all our clients, employees, volunteers and those who are part of our faith communities for the offence caused by this miscommunication.”

They apologize for getting caught. Pure and Simple. Please, do not support the Salvation Army.

Life on Mars by 2023

WOW- this is pretty cool, to see in our lifetime!

In 10 years from now, people are going to start a whole new world – on MARS.

A Dutch startup that goes by the name Mars One says it will establish a colony on Mars by 2023, according to the Mars One website. And preparations are going on right now.

In 2022, a crew of four will embark on a seven-month flight to the
Red Planet–and stay there for the rest of their lives, according to the website. A new team will make the trip every two years, enabling the colony to grow.

Mars One will establish the first human settlement on Mars in 2023. A
habitable settlement will be waiting for the settlers when they land.
The settlement will support them while they live and work on Mars the
rest of their lives. Every two years after 2023 an additional crew will
arrive, such that there is a real living, growing community on Mars.
Mars One has created a technical plan for this mission that is as simple
as possible. For every component of the mission we have identified at
least one potential supplier. Mars One invites you to join us in this
next giant leap for mankind!

“This is an extraordinary project by people with vision, imagination,” Nobel Prize-winning physicist Dr. Gerard ‘t Hooft, a “mission ambassador” for the privately funded venture, said in a video posted on the website.

Everything will be filmed and televised as this new world unfolds!

Watch their video  now  at  Mars One.

The Mayan Prophecy of 2012

The other I was with  a group of friends and the topic of the Mayan 2012 prediction came up in conversation. And it has been a topic I have pondered  a lot over  the last year.

A New Age interpretation of this transition is that this date (12-21-12) marks the start of
time in which Earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical
or spiritual transformation, and that 2012 may mark the beginning of a new era. Others suggest that the 2012 date marks the end of the world or a similar catastrophe.Scenarios suggested for the end of the world include the arrival of the next solar maximum, or Earth’s collision with an object such as a black hole, a passing asteroid, or a planet called “Nibiru”.

So while doing a Google search today I found this cool site called 13 Moon and in particular a section by Eden Sky where she discusses in length, the mysteries of the ancient Maya.

Since 1995, Eden Sky has devoted her life to researching and teaching the mysteries of the Ancient Maya, their prophecies, and their astounding time science. Eden has studied directly under Dr. Jose Arguelles, the man who is largely responsible for the global interest in the Mayan Calendar System and the now infamous 2012 date, including a 7-week long residential seminary with Arguelles in Chile.

In my eyes, the last few years I have seen this rising, this intensity, fear, hate, killing and greed  happening all around us. So what I read,  really resonated with me.

Eden says, “Together we are in a great initiation process, living in times of unprecedented challenge, transformation and opportunity. This planetary moment has never existed before as it does right now. Our human population is climbing off the charts, accelerating by the day, as is our environmental crises and the vast whole-system struggles of peoples worldwide, both physically and spiritually.

The old world mentality, founded in separation, greed, ignorance, and unconscious consumer materialism, has reached dangerous peaks. Simultaneously, there has never been so much possibility at our fingertips as there is right now. A new paradigm is trying to emerge in our world, through our hearts and minds, like a flower trying to grow through the cracks in the cement sidewalk. New comprehensions and new solutions are emerging in our collective journey – from new sciences, to new economic models, new healing modalities, new energy technologies, new educational models, new forms of conflict resolution, etc. These times of crisis are unifying us and catalyzing us to awaken to our personal and collective responsibilities in this one planetary equation.”

“The Solstice on December 21, 2012 ~ precisely at 11:11 AM Universal Time ~ marks the completion of the 5,125 year Great Cycle of the Ancient Maya Long Count Calendar.

Rather than being a linear end-point, this cycle that is closing is naturally followed by the start of a new cycle. What this new cycle has in store for humanity is a mystery that has yet to unfold…

2012 is also considered the completion of the 26,000 year Precession of the Equinoxes cycle, and some say it also signifies the end of a 104,000 year cycle.

The New Cycle that is to emerge is founded on us awakening to the beauty and responsibility of our interconnectedness. Every one of us has a piece in this cosmic puzzle, and we must help each other find our heart’s guidance in these mysterious times. As we recognize we are in a Global Healing Crisis, we can shake off the wounded victim mentality, and arise as Medicine Warriors, here to do the necessary work to help lay the ground for a New Era to root, conscious of our obligations to future generations.

Carlos Barrios, who was trained as an Ajq’ij in the Maya tradition, has this to share in regards to 2012:

“Our planet can be renewed or ravaged. Now is the time to awaken and take action…The prophesized changes are going to happen, but our attitude and actions determine how harsh or mild they are.

“This is a crucially important moment for humanity and for earth. Each person is important. If you have incarnated into this era, you have spiritual work to do balancing the planet…The greatest wisdom is in simplicity. Love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, forgiveness. It’s not complex or elaborate. The real knowledge is free. It’s encoded in your DNA. All you need is within you. Great teachers have said that from the beginning. Find you heart, and you will find your way.”

Her site provides lots of free and fascinating information about The New Cycle and the Mayan Prophecy.

Anti Gay Bullying Claims Life in Iowa

Gay Teen Bullied to death.

A 14-year old gay teen died by suicide Saturday in Primghar, Iowa, after coming out as gay and being bullied for months, according to a report.

There are no other news reports yet, but there is a Facebook group created in his memory.

One entry notes, “Its sad to see how people cannot just see past a
persons identity and just see them as a human,” while another reads,
“You took his happiness away from him..,” and another, “No one deserves
to be bullied! My sympathies to the family and friends of Kenneth! And
to the kids that bullied him hope you sleep okay knowing that you drove a
young man to an early fate, you should be ashamed of yourself!”

A Facebook page
which appears to be that of the same Kenneth James Weishuhn lists his
nickname as Rodney. The last entry was March 30.

The death is currently under investigation by the O’Brien County Sherriffs Dept. along with local law enforcement.

A tribute video was published to YouTube yesterday.
